AFAP accepts volunteers and University Interns on a regular basis. We currently have an opening for the following positions:

Workshop Interns-March-June 2012- multiple positions

Partnership Program Launch Interns -March-June 2012- multiple positions

INTERNS- Partnership Workshop

Supervisor: Partnership Program Manager

Counterpart: Program and Administration Assistant

Departments: Partnership Program

Duration: March 2012- June 2012

Workshop date: Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27 th of May

Interns are expected to be available for the entire workshop event.

The intern(s) will be involved in coordinating and assisting the Program department host the Partnership Workshop.

AFAP is seeking interns who are flexible, motivated and able to perform in a team environment with minimal supervision. High level analytical skills and fast-learners are preferred. Excellent writing skills and organisational skills. Students interested in International Development are encouraged to apply.

AFAP would suggest that interns may have experience, interest or majors in the areas listed below.

  • Event management
  • Capacity Building and Education
  • Program and resource development for International Development

The intern(s) will be responsible for planning, coordinating and hosting the annual AFAP Partnership Workshop. The workshop presents an opportunity for AFAP’s partners, members and special guests gather to learn more about International development and AFAP. This role will include research as well as event management activities.

The intern(s) may be engaged activities, including but are not limited to:

Preparations for partnership workshop:

  • Pre Event Logistics:

o   Draft invitations for guest speakers to attend.

o   Determine ticket cost for the 2 day workshop.

o   Determine if the workshop is to remain for AFAP partners and members or if the general public and students can attend.

o   Draft and send workshop invitations to AFAP partners and members.

o   Deliver “save the date” reminders to AFAP partners and members.

  • Event planning: including site reconnaissance and gathering quotes; organising logistics such as location, catering, gifts and thank you cards; developing run sheets and schedules; seeking and briefing volunteers; developing program (such as speakers, partner stands etc.)
  • Workshop Agenda: compile the agenda for both days of the workshop and distribute to all staff, volunteers and participants.
  • Capacity Building and Education:

o   Compile the resource and material package for partners

o   Communicate with AFAP staff for the appropriate material to be included

o   Collecting appropriate international development resources for partners

o   Developing materials to aid with the topics being covered in the workshop. This could include: presentations, FAQ sheets, brochures, etc.

o   Compile and distribute materials to partners during the workshop

  • Workshop information packs: assist the Program and Administration Assistant with the creation and dispersion of workshop material for staff and volunteers.
  • Volunteer management and event scheduling:

o   Training/briefing/debrief/gifts and thank you.

o   Coordinating the volunteers for each day to ensure that the workshop is a success.

o   Ensuring that volunteers are taking notes at all times during the workshop.

o   Creating the template for such notes to be taken.

o   Ensure that photos are taken during the workshop

  • Social Research:

o   Design evaluation surveys that will be presented to attendees for their thoughts.

o   Deliver evaluation surveys to partners and attendees on each day of the workshop.

o   Collate all information gathered from the evaluation surveys and present to AFAP.

  • Pre media publicity campaign to promote AFAP:

o   Co-ordinate with the AFAP Communication and Education Manager on publicising the workshop on AFAP’s website.

o   Publicise the AFAP workshop in the wider community ie. Universities.

  • Post media publicity campaign to promote AFAP:

o   Prepare an article on the workshop for inclusion in the AFAP newsletter.

o   Post photos and comments from the workshop on the AFAP website; Facebook page and twitter.

Workshop Event:

  • Event coordination: responsible for on the day set up and operations; ensuring logistics and schedule run smoothly; overseeing volunteers, monitor VIP guests, staff information table
  • Post event: debriefing volunteers; debriefing with AFAP staff
  • Collate notes from volunteers and present to the Program and Administration Assistant.

General:

Interns may work with or coordinate with the Partnership Program Launch team in order to reduce duplication and ensure effective delivery of project outcomes.

Interns are expected to meet AFAP supervisor at minimum once per fortnight to report progress of the project and discuss issues. These will be determined with the selected interns. The AFAP supervisor and counterpart will also be available to provide advice and support between mandatory meetings.

Interns are expected to comply with AFAP systems, procedures and operating philosophy. As representatives of AFAP, interns will be expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner when dealing with partners and members of the public.

 

INTERNS- Launch of AFAP Partnership Program

The intern(s) will be involved in assisting the Partnership Program department launch the new Partnership Program.

AFAP is seeking interns who are flexible, motivated and able to perform in a team environment with minimal supervision. High level analytical skills and fast-learners are preferred. Excellent writing skills and ability to use design tools are an advantage. Students interested in International Development are encouraged to apply.

AFAP would suggest that interns may have experience, interest or majors in the areas listed below.

  • Program and resource development for International Development
  • Communications, Marketing and/or media
  • Event management

The intern(s) may be engaged activities, including but are not limited to:

Preparations for new program:

The intern(s) will be involved in the development of resources to communicate the new program to existing partners, AFAP members and the Australian public.

  • Resource and Information Package for partners
    • Collaborating with AFAP staff for material to be included
    • Writing and developing resources
    • Research, compilation and distribution of package to partners
  • Communications
    • Developing materials to explain the new program. This could include: presentations, FAQ sheets, brochures, etc.
    • Providing advice to AFAP on program marketing and image
    • Drafting communications to AFAP’s existing partners
  • Designing and delivering a presentation about the program/package at AFAP’s Partner Workshop

Launch Event:

The intern(s) will be responsible for planning, coordinating and publicising an event to celebrate the new program. This will include research as well as event management activities

  • Event planning: including site reconnaissance and gathering quotes; organising logistics such as location, catering, prizes etc; seeking/liaising with event sponsors; developing run sheets and schedules; seeking and briefing volunteers; developing program (such as speakers, partner stands etc.)
  • Event coordination: responsible for on the day set up and operations; ensuring logistics and schedule run smoothly; overseeing volunteers, monitor VIP guests, staff information table
  • Publicity: plan and implement publicity and media campaign which may include invitations, media kit/releases, posters, mail outs, online and other publicity material
  • Post event: debriefing volunteers; debriefing with AFAP staff

General:

Interns may work with or coordinate with the Partners Workshop Intern Team in order to reduce duplication and ensure effective delivery of project outcomes.
