Australian Office

Kevin Vang JD (Environmental and International Law); MA; BA
Executive Director, Environmental and Natural Disaster Program Manager and APCEDI Coordinator.

Kevin has been AFAP’s Executive Director since 1995, and has guided it through its considerable growth. Prior to working at AFAP, Kevin was involved as a university lecturer and government advisor in the environmental and natural disaster fields. Kevin, a Fulbright Scholar to PNG from 1989-1991, studied at the Academy of Law at the International Court of Law in Den Haag, Netherlands and at the University of Oregon, USA.

A life long natural historian and environmentalist, Kevin is one of Australia's most prolific birdwatchers and nature photographers. His personal website is www.birdquest.net. 

 

Christine Carberry B.Bus, ASA

Financial and Systems Manager, East Timor Program Manager

Christine Carberry has been working with AFAP since 1993. She is an accountant with 25 years of financial and project management experience, and has operated her own business for 15 years. Christine manages AFAP's financial systems and provides capacity building to our partners in finance, operations and program support.

 

Uma Menon MA (International & Community Dev.), B. Soc. Science (Sociology, Anthropology), Dip. Marketing
South East Asia Program Manager, Dengue Control/Prevention in Viet Nam and Cambodia, MSS Program Manager

Uma Menon has been working for AFAP since 2000. Uma has 15 years experience in the aid sector in areas of community development, governance, Dengue control and prevention and infrastructure project management with World Bank projects. Uma manages AFAP's Good Governance Program, which operates in the Solomon Islands, Dengue Control and Prevention in Viet Nam and Cambodia and the Medical Services and Supplies Program.

 

David Brett BSc (For), MAgr (Extension)

Africa Program Manager

David joined AFAP in February 2005 to manage AFAP's Africa program, including HIV-AIDS, water and sanitation, food security, and capacity building projects. David spent five years living and working in the development sector in Tanzania and Kenya and several years managing natural resource management and community development programs in South Asia.


Debora Di Dio BA (Intl Relations & Asian Studies), Dip. Chinese language

Office Manager

Debora joined AFAP in April 2008 to manage office operations. As AFAP's Office Manager, Debora is responsible for ensuring a smooth running of our busy St Leonards-based office. Debora has experience in office administration and has lived and worked in several countries in Europe and Asia. She has a deep interest in development issues and is completing a Master Degree in Development Studies.

 

George Andrew Wells

Emergencies, Logistics and MSS Coordinator

George Wells manages the international logistical components of AFAP’s projects, and is involved in the management of the MSS program and fundraising strategies. George was an AFAP board member for seven years before he joined the AFAP staff in 2005. George has coordinated the MSS program, served as the East Timor Program Manager and was seconded to AFAP's partner, Timor Aid, as Operations Manager in 1999. George has had previous roles in community development, transportation, emergency management, waste management and social advocacy.



Viet Nam Office

Simon Kutcher MA (International & Community Development)

Health Program Manager

Simon joined AFAP in June 2005 to continue the Viet Nam Dengue Control Program through the integration of the rural water supply and sanitation projects in the Mekong Delta. Simon has worked as a project manager in the development sector for the past seven years and has lived in both Viet Nam and Cambodia.



Solomon Islands Office


Luke Johnston B.Sc (Resource and Environmental Management)
Program Manager
Luke joined AFAP in 2005 as Solomon Islands Program Manager, and is currently based in Honiara where his primary responsibility is overseeing the BLESS Governance project. He is also involved in the development of other governance programs, as well as AFAP's Disaster Preparedness and Medical Services and Supplies programs. With a background in financial administration,  Luke has twelve years experience in aid and community development in conflict and post-conflict situations, including five years in Afghanistan. Since 2000 he has been involved in managing and training local staff in community development programs in the Pacific Islands, a region with which he is familiar having grown up in Papua New Guinea.
