Livelihoods in Environmentally-Fragile Areas Program

Viet Nam

This AusAID-funded project works in three communities - Ky Phu, Khoi Ky and My Yen. Its aim is to increase household income through increased agricultural productivity and to strengthen the abilities of local communities to manage and sustain the natural resources of the Tam Dao National Park.

Agriculture activities include training on environmentally-sound fertilizers, education on the reduction of pesticide use, improved tea growing and farming techniques and alternative sustainable livelihoods such a bee-keeping and handicrafts. Environmental activities are focused around a primary school education campaign to teach children the value of the National Park and how to protect it. This education program has been incorporated into the curriculum by the Education Department.
